Tesamorelin units calculator.

Turn mg into units on a U-100 insulin syringe. The calculator starts on an example.

Use the dose your prescriber gave you and the concentration printed on your vial or pharmacy label. Vialist does the math; it does not give dosing advice.

The fields start on an example (2 mg vial, 1 mL, 0.5 mg). That example is not a dose for you.

mL

Barrel size changes whether the draw fits. It does not change the units.

Turn mg into units on a U-100 syringe

A U-100 insulin syringe is marked in units, and 100 units is 1 mL. A vial is labeled in mg. To get from one to the other you need the concentration, which is how many mg are in each mL of liquid in the vial. Tesamorelin is FDA approved as Egrifta. Its label gives the diluent and the amount to add, so use the instructions that came with your product and the numbers your prescriber or pharmacist gave you.

units = amount in mg ÷ concentration in mg per mL × 100

Worked example, using the numbers the calculator starts on. A 2 mg vial with 1 mL of liquid is 2 ÷ 1 = 2 mg per mL. An amount of 0.5 mg is 0.5 ÷ 2 = 0.25 mL, and 0.25 mL × 100 = 25 units. Example only. Use the dose your prescriber gave you. Your vial may be a different size and may call for a different amount of liquid.

    Worked examples

The amounts and the two concentrations below are arbitrary examples chosen to show the arithmetic. They are not doses, and being in this table does not mean an amount is right for anyone. Always use the dose your prescriber gave you and the concentration on your own label, and if your concentration is not here, type it into the calculator.

Each cell is computed by the same code as the calculator above. Read across your amount, then down to the concentration on your label.

    Check before you draw

    • Confirm the syringe says U-100. Other scales (U-50, U-40) give different numbers for the same mL.
    • Units and mL are not the same thing. On a U-100 syringe, 10 units is 0.1 mL.
    • Compare the result with the pharmacy label, or ask your pharmacist to check it with you.

    Questions

    Straight answers.

How many units is 1 mg at 2 mg/mL?

At 2 mg/mL, 1 mg is 0.5 mL, which is 50 units on a U-100 syringe. At 4 mg/mL it is 0.25 mL, or 25 units. Same amount, different concentration, different units. Example only. Use the dose your prescriber gave you.

Are units the same as mg?

No. Units on an insulin syringe measure volume: 100 units is 1 mL. Mg measures how much of the compound is in that volume. The concentration links the two.

    Is tesamorelin FDA approved?

Yes, as Egrifta, for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adult patients with lipodystrophy (source: the Egrifta prescribing information on the FDA website). Vialist does not suggest uses. Follow your prescriber and the label for yours.

How much water do I add?

Use the diluent and the amount in the instructions for your product, or what your pharmacist told you. The calculator takes whatever you actually added and works out the concentration from it.

Does Vialist tell me what dose to take?

No. You enter the dose your prescriber gave you. Vialist does the unit math and keeps the record.
