Guide
Injection sites and rotation.
Which site to use depends on the product and on the training your prescriber or pharmacist gave you. This guide shows what labels say and how to keep a record.
Vialist does arithmetic on numbers you give it. It does not give dosing advice. Every example here is for illustration only, so use the dose your prescriber gave you and the instructions on your product label or from your pharmacist.
Subcutaneous injections
A subcutaneous injection goes into the fatty layer under the skin. The label for Wegovy (semaglutide) says to inject subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, and to rotate injection sites with each dose. Source: Wegovy prescribing information, DailyMed.
Sites differ by product. The Egrifta (tesamorelin) labels direct injection into the abdomen, rotating injection sites. Source: the Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR prescribing information on the FDA website. Always use the sites named for your own product.
Intramuscular injections
An intramuscular injection goes into a muscle. The Depo-Testosterone (testosterone cypionate) label says it is for intramuscular use only, that it should not be given intravenously, and that the injection should be given deep into the muscle. Source: Depo-Testosterone prescribing information, DailyMed. Your prescriber or pharmacist should show you the site and the technique for you.
Rotation
Rotating means not using the same spot every time. The Wegovy and Egrifta labels both say to rotate sites. A simple record of where you last injected makes that easy to follow.
Logging sites in Vialist
Vialist has a front and back body map. On the front you can tap abdomen, love handles, thigh and shoulder. On the back you can tap back of arm, hip and glute. Vialist shows how recently you used each one. The map is a record of where you injected. Which sites are right for a product is up to its label and your prescriber. See the features.
Check before you inject
- Use the sites named on your product label or by your prescriber.
- Keep a record of the last site so you can rotate.
- Ask your pharmacist or prescriber if you are unsure about a site or technique.

Vialist Log does this automatically
Tap a site on the body map when you log a dose, and Vialist keeps the history and shows how recently you used each site, with no account and nothing leaving your phone.
