Semaglutide units calculator.
Turn mg into units on a U-100 insulin syringe. The calculator starts on an example.
Use the dose your prescriber gave you and the concentration printed on your vial or pharmacy label. Vialist does the math; it does not give dosing advice.
The fields start on an example (5 mg vial, 2 mL, 0.25 mg). That example is not a dose for you.

Turn mg into units on a U-100 syringe
A U-100 insulin syringe is marked in units, and 100 units is 1 mL. A vial is labeled in mg. To get from one to the other you need the concentration, which is how many mg are in each mL of liquid in the vial.
units = dose in mg ÷ concentration in mg per mL × 100
Worked example, using the numbers the calculator starts on. A 5 mg vial with 2 mL of liquid is 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 mg per mL. A 0.25 mg dose is 0.25 ÷ 2.5 = 0.1 mL, and 0.1 mL × 100 = 10 units.
Worked examples
The doses below are the doses on the FDA label (Wegovy prescribing information, DailyMed). The two concentrations are examples only. Compounded vials come in different strengths, and a powder vial depends on how much liquid was added, so always use the concentration on your own label. Being in this table does not mean a dose is right for you.
| Dose (mg) | 2.5 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Units | mL | Units | mL | |
| 0.25 | 10 | 0.1 | 5 | 0.05 |
| 0.5 | 20 | 0.2 | 10 | 0.1 |
| 1 | 40 | 0.4 | 20 | 0.2 |
| 1.7 | 68 | 0.68 | 34 | 0.34 |
| 2.4 | 96 | 0.96 | 48 | 0.48 |
Each cell is computed by the same code as the calculator above. Read across your dose, then down to the concentration on your label. If your concentration is not here, type it into the calculator.
Check before you draw
- Confirm the syringe says U-100. Other scales (U-50, U-40) give different numbers for the same mL.
- Units and mL are not the same thing. On a U-100 syringe, 10 units is 0.1 mL.
- Compare the result with the pharmacy label, or ask your pharmacist to check it with you.

Questions
Straight answers.
How many units is 0.25 mg of semaglutide?
It depends on the concentration on your label. At 2.5 mg/mL, 0.25 mg is 0.1 mL, which is 10 units on a U-100 syringe. At 5 mg/mL it is 0.05 mL, or 5 units. Same dose, different concentration, different units.
Are units the same as mg?
No. Units on an insulin syringe measure volume: 100 units is 1 mL. Mg measures how much of the compound is in that volume. The concentration links the two.
Why do compounded vials show different concentrations?
Different pharmacies and different vial sizes mean different strengths, so there is no single number. That is why this page shows two examples and asks you to use your own label.
What if the result is over 100 units?
A 1 mL U-100 syringe holds 100 units. The calculator warns when the draw is larger than the barrel you pick or over 100 units, so you can double-check the numbers you typed.
Does Vialist tell me what dose to take?
No. You enter the dose your prescriber gave you. Vialist does the unit math and keeps the record.
